It has great characters who've continued to evolve (after living/surviving in Line of Succession), it has thought-provoking plot lines that keep you thinking but most importantly, it keeps you wanting more pages just moments after turning the last one.
Also, the action of the novel, which kept me at the edge of my seat throughout, has moments which point to greater considerations about history, religion, and even spirituality: How has the History we've all learned from specific texts been shaped by the victors/powers that be? How much power does the Vatican have despite the small size of its sovereign state? How many of us have moments in our own lives where we realize the sometimes "painful inconsistencies between our beliefs and reality?" This is my kind of thriller.
